Week 9 as a CST

With 2 months of orientation down, I’m feeling a lot more confident in the O.R. My communication is getting stronger each day. I’m more confident in setting up. I’m remembering previous cases & what they need next & am able to have most things ready before they ask for it. I’m conquering cords one day at a time! HA. We are getting there.

I was super nervous to start ortho but I think I’ve really been enjoying it. That mini c-arm gets me, though. I struggle to get it draped but am getting better each time.

Having a Rep is really nice because they help you find what you need! They open things up to you that the surgeon will need & they explain what to do with it, etc.

Suture & Local vs Different Specialties

As I rotate through the different specialties during my orientation I am noticing the differences between suture & the order it’s used & what it’s used for. I also noticed the differences between when local is used & when it’s not used.

The longer I scrub & have to pull suture & put the extra suture back, the more I remember where it all is & what it’s used for. I will share what I have learned so far.

I always have my pile of suture I need & then a pile with 1 extra for each suture pulled, as well as any holds/availables. Gyne is one I have learned you grab more than one extra for! Once you use the last one you always make sure to ask for another!

Week 8 as a CST

Week 8 of scrub tech orientation…

Hard to believe I’m already approaching 2 months working in the O.R.

The 23rd I’ll be starting call with my preceptor. I’m so nervous!

This past week I have moved on to Ortho & Gyne. We have had a lot of C-sections. I did my first breech C-section. They make me so nervous, but each time I do one I feel more & more confident.
