About Me

WELCOME TO MY PAGE~!

I’m Jessica. I’m 35. I’m a mom of 3. Wife to an amazing firefighter/EMT. I do fire photography for our local fire department. I took care of my mom for 3 years before she passed away. At 30 I went back to college (2019) to pursue becoming a (PTA) physical therapy assistant. In 2020 the Pandemic hit & I changed my career path to Surgical Technology, which I have fallen in love with & can’t imagine doing anything else! After losing my mom in June of 2021 I was forced to get a job elsewhere until graduation. I was able to get a job at the hospital I plan on working at after I graduate (where I work at now). I worked in dietary & delivered trays to patient rooms, along with many other tasks from August 2021 – June 2022, then I switched over to the operating room on June 20th! I really enjoyed helping out in dietary & making the patients smile. The floors I mainly worked on & enjoyed working on the most were Surgical, CCU, & Behavior Health. I also delivered to the medical & OB unit. The patients were so wonderful (most of the time) & I absolutely loved getting to help them.

I started this blog because I had no clue what to expect coming into the program and couldn’t find any information anywhere to help me out! I am hoping to both help others through their journey & inspire others to start their journey!

I have always loved helping people and do it any chance I get! It just truly makes me happy! I knew I wanted to work in the medical field, like my husband, but I never found anything that was for me until I came across surgical technology! I never knew it even existed or that my grandma had done the same thing! The first time I looked at BHC’s website about Surgical Technology I told my husband there was no way I’d be able to do anything like that with my anxiety, but it definitely sparked something in me! A week later, however, I came back to it & decided that maybe it was for me, after all, and I wasn’t going to let my anxiety stop me from doing another thing! I was up for the challenge.

I’m so glad I followed my heart & faced my fears because I absolutely LOVE Surgical Technology & adore my instructor, she’s so wonderful! I am hoping to help, inspire, teach, and just spread the word about Surgical Techs! Surgical Techs are so amazing & often underappreciated. Not to mention, a lot of people don’t even know who they are… I know I didn’t!

I’m so excited to start my journey as a CST now that I’ve graduated!! I will be taking as many photos as I can to share & help others along their journey!

Jess

  1. Hi Jess, thank you for sharing your story. What a success! I was hoping you would have time to hear mine. Hopefully you have some advice to succeed in my journey as I look for a job as an St.
If you wouldn’t mind, I’d like to leave my email address so I could talk to you in private. If not I understand.

    1. That’s awesome!! I absolutely adored my teacher. She was the sweetest. I lost my mom in the middle of the program & she was like a mom to me. I love being a CST but I cannot imagine teaching it. Kudos to all the ST teachers!! ❤

  2. Sorry, my reply didn’t go all the way through. Anyway, during one of my classes I show case your Word Press as an example of Word Press – as one of the technologies I demonstrate. It’s a great site for these students. I was wondering if you would be interested in being a guest speaker for one of my classes. All classes are offered on Zoom. We meet Monday nights on Zoom. If you would be interested, I’ve left my email. Please let me know. Thank you!! Jamie Ackley

    1. Sorry I am just seeing your comment. I’m very honored that you would think of me. However, I am not good at speaking in front of people. I get too nervous & am awful at explaining things lol. It took me the longest time in the OR to adjust with my anxiety and having to communicate with others. And depending on the timing, I work from 7-330pm. However, if I was available somehow & was able to preplan something, I wouldn’t be as apposed. But I’m sure I’d still be super awkward. 😂

  3. Hello Jess,

I am a surgical tech program director/instructor and would very much like to link your blog in one of my assignments to a new group of surgical tech students. They are being required to journal/blog weekly during the program, and although I am not requiring them to go above and beyond like you, which is just wonderful, I do want them to see how the journal can not only help them but others later. I hope you are ok with this but if not, you may respond with a no. My classes do not start until August 2024, so there is time to unlink your page.

Congratulations on your almost 2 year anniversary.

    Thank you ,

    Heather
