And onto the current week! This week I did general & got to do orthopedics for the first time…

Clinical. Week 9. Semester 4.
This week I was able to go back to my original clinical site! It wasn’t as exciting as I thought it would be though. And maybe that’s just because I ended up in Urology! LOL.

Continue reading “Clinical. Week 8.”Today was supposed to be a full day of OB/GYN. My first case ended up being General & was a shoulder mass excision. I got to set it up, pass it, & turn it over. I think I really really enjoy doing those! Who knew.
I also got complimented by the circulator about how well I did & she told me if I needed a job I could work there! Felt good to hear!
Things definitely DID NOT go as planned today after our general case.
Pre-Clincal. Week 8. Semester 4.
Continue reading “Pre-Clincal. Week 8. Semester 4.”I’m going to start this week off with a pre-clinical post!
I had to call my clinical site between 2:30 & 4:30 p.m. to get my assignments. I fell asleep after class since I wasn’t feeling well still, so I called around 3:30 when our kids got home & woke me up! The hard part about calling vs getting a text is hearing what she’s saying over the phone. I don’t always catch everything, & even when she repeats herself, it’s hard to understand. I do the best I can though. Then, I grab my preference card sheets I made & start researching my cases.
This week’s cases are:

Continue reading “Clinical. Week 7. Semester 4.”We are almost 2 months into clinicals! I have 59 cases completed with 4 weeks (8 days) left in this semester. How has it gone by so fast!?
This week was a really tough week!
Why?
Prepping for Clinicals
Continue reading “Prepping for Clinicals”It’s very important to the facility that is letting you come to do your clincials, that you make sure to remember, FIRST & foremost, to get your assignments for the next day AND, secondly, that you STUDY for your assignments! BE PREPARED!! They can & will send you home if they feel you’re not prepared!!
how do I prepare for my clincials?…
Clinical. Week 6. Semester 4.
It’s been quite the week. Day 1 I started at my 1st clinical site & day 2 I switched clinical locations. I feel like I got comfortable & was in the zone & doing awesome & building more & more confidence & then BAM! I just have to remind myself that I got this & I have to adapt & overcome! I will not let this get me down. I will keep going & prove to myself that this will only make me stronger & better. 🙏🙌

Now that I’ve finished my Uro cases, I have been able to start on OB and Eyes!
I also started my binder for all of my cases. I research each case the night before and print out anything I can on it & put it in my binder. Then once the procedure is over, and I have time, I update it to fit our facility and surgeons and how we would do the procedure. While we are on a break I can also sit and study my cases.
I also started taking photos of something else I hadn’t thought to take photos of…

Normally we would switch locations, but we are having some issues with some of the hospitals, unfortunately.
So, I get to stay at my hospital, which is awesome.
I’m getting settled in & getting used to things.
Wish I didn’t have to leave!…
EVER!! 🙂
Clinical. Week 3. Semester 4.
Continue reading “Clinical. Week 3. Semester 4.”I think this week was a huge turning point for me. I had my first day of the week & had so many mixed emotions. I was really down on myself wondering if I could get through this! The next day, however, I feel like I was more confident & a whole new me. I mean, being in the O.R. is really intimidating, especially when we only know the general instruments, and all I have is Urology. It’s just been super nerve-wracking. It’s a lot to adjust to! Everyone has had a lot of nice things to say, though, and great advice to make me feel better. I just have to accept that I’m going to (hopefully) graduate & still not know everything… it’s a learning process & a long one! BUT I CAN & WILL do it! When you feel like you can’t do it & feel like giving up… DON’T! It gets better.
Anyways…
